Touka is the character who teaches Kaneki (and the viewer) what being a ghoul means. She tries to live like an ordinary girl working at a café and going to school — because her real wish isn't power but a normal life.
Character traits
Tough, angry and defensive; but that toughness is the armor of someone exhausted by constant loss. Her effort to live among humans makes her both strong and fragile.
Having lost her family, the instinct to build and protect a new one (Anteiku) is at her core.
Role in the story
Touka carries the series' perspective that "ghouls want to live too." Her relationship with Kaneki is about two lonely beings finding a home in each other. Her longing for normalcy strengthens the moral axis questioning the human-ghoul divide.
She shows that the one labeled a monster can also want ordinary happiness.
Tracking Tokyo Ghoul on Episodo
