Robin is the crewmate with the darkest past. As the last person who can read the true history the World Government erased (the Poneglyphs), she has had a bounty on her head since age eight and been betrayed by everyone.

Calm, intellectual and mysterious. She fights with arms that bloom like flowers (Hana Hana), but her real weapon is her knowledge. As someone who betrayed everyone for years to survive, she's the character who finds trust the hardest.
Her dark humor and easy jokes about death are a shield over the pain she carries.
Role in the story
Robin's peak is Enies Lobby: having chosen to die, the crew declares war on the whole world for her, and she finally screams "I want to live!" That scene carries the series' theme that "being wanted by someone is salvation."
Robin is the character who learns to live not for a goal but for a family.
