Sukuna (full name: Ryomen Sukuna) is Jujutsu Kaisen''s real antagonist and the endpoint of every tension line in the story. A thousand-year-old king of curses — when he was killed, his power split into nineteen fingers; the fingers couldn''t be destroyed, so they were hidden. The story begins when Yuji swallows one of them.
What sets him apart
His visual identity is instant: four arms, two faces. The primary face emerges in tattoo form on Yuji''s body; the second sits on his neck. One of the manga''s strongest design decisions.
Power level: cursed energy in its purest form. Cleave/Dismantle and Malevolent Shrine (his Domain Expansion) are screen-filling visual explosions. The sound design on the Domain Expansion reveals is among the most-remembered moments of modern anime.
Personality: total indifference to humanity. Yuji''s "don''t you want to save anyone?" framing finds zero traction with Sukuna. That mismatch is the source of the show''s entire moral conflict.
His place in the story
The manga''s final arc has Sukuna fighting every character at once — Gojo, Yuji, Megumi, Yuta, Maki, all of them. Those fights occupy most of the manga''s back half. The story''s central question becomes him: how does humanity defeat something this strong?
His internal dialogue with Yuji is one of the show''s most original narrative structures. Two consciousnesses sharing one body — rare in shounen at this depth.
Tracking on Episodo
Sukuna is a thin presence in Season 1, a major arrival in Season 2, and at full throttle in Season 3. With the Episodo extension installed, the detail page''s episode notes help map which scenes carry which beat of his development across seasons.
